You can perform a death records search through the United States Social Security Administration or SSA. The SSA has Death Master File or DMF that is kept up to date. This year, the SSA has about 86 million records on its Death Master File. Death reports are commonly done by a family member, lawyer, of the deceased person. The mortuary can also submit death reports. Filing a death report is an important process for claiming death benefits. The Social Security Number of the deceased person is key to this process. I've personally grieved the loss of family members and dear friends; however, recently I experienced, for the first time, a slow, impending death. I watched my 91 year old Mother for months as she made her transition. I watched her body return to the fetal position, her frail skeletal frame show protruding bones and unpreventable decubitus ulcers, feeding tube challenges, and constant pain. Through it all, though, she never lost her warm smile and her tenacity to fight. I marveled at her strength and wonder if I could ever have that much fortitude. I watched her peacefully die, at home, in her sleep, just as she had said she wanted to die. If you were born in the 70s, most likely you have heard his greatest hits like Summer Wind, Night and Day and My Way. The music and film industry lost this great singer and actor to heart attack and chronic bladder cancer. He died at the age of 82. Decide what to do with the body. Where will the body stay until the funeral service is held? Will the deceased be buried or cremated? If decide on a burial, you will also need to choose a casket. For a cremation, will it be at sea or will you need an urn? Ladies should keep their shoulders covered. Since most funerals take place in a church or other religious institution, it is common sense to practice modesty when selecting a dress to wear to the funeral. We chose a local minister who shared some of our fondest memories of Mom. A close friend also sang one of Mom's favorite hymns, The Old Rugged Cross. The funeral home arranged for a closed circuit broadcast of the eulogy service, accessible on the internet, for relatives who could not attend the funeral. As we approach death, our personal relationships with life and death will set the stage of our acceptance of the new life that awaits us and our loved ones.
